What is silicone rubber?
Silicones cover a large group of materials in which vinyl-methyl-silicone (VMQ) is often the central ingredient. Silicone elastomers have relatively low tensile strength, poor tear and wear resistance. They have good heat, weather and ozone resistance, and good cold flexibility. They also have good insulating and physiologically neutral properties.
Uses of silicone rubber
Silicone rubbers are widely used in the pharmaceutical, medical, electrical, automotive and aerospace industry. Their applications include surgical implants, wound dressings, mold making, wire and cable insulations, gaskets, seals, tubings, O-rings, etc. Silicone elastomers are also used in pressure sensitive adhesives.
